Saint Hope

Icon made on natural linden wood with water-gilding technique. After the thermal treatment, the wood was gilded with 22K gold leaf, in accordance with traditional Byzantine techniques. The icon has been painted with egg tempera for a higher quality and durability of the colors.

Saint Elpis (Hope) is depicted as a young martyr with a serene and pure expression. Her face reveals her spiritual strength and unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. In her right hand she holds the cross of her martyrdom, a symbol of victory and confession of faith. Her left hand is raised in a gesture of supplication, while the overall posture of her body conveys devotion and trust in God. Her garments are simple, rendered in bright tones that highlight her purity and virtue.
