The Divine Child is depicted frontally, expressing the dual nature of Jesus Christ, His childlike innocence and divine wisdom. His body and gaze are directed toward the believers, signifying His relationship with humanity and His omnipresence. With His right hand He blesses the people, while with His left He holds a closed scroll, symbol of the word of God. The expression of His face is solemn and conveys maturity, transcending the limits of childhood.
In His halo appears the inscription "ό Ών" (One Who Is), emphasizing the ontological truth of God’s very being, while the sides of the halo bear the inscription “ΙΣ ΧΣ” — the name of Jesus Christ.
