Saint Mary Magdalene

Icon made on natural linden wood with water-gilding technique. After the thermal treatment, the wood was gilded with 22K gold leaf, in accordance with traditional Byzantine techniques. The icon has been painted with egg tempera for a higher quality and durability of the colors.

Saint Mary Magdalene is depicted as a Myrrh-bearer and Equal-to-the-Apostles, wearing a modest yet radiant red garment. In her left hand she holds a vessel of myrrh, symbolizing her offering to the Risen Christ and her role as the first witness of the Resurrection. Her face, filled with hope and faith, conveys love and spiritual fervor. In her right hand she holds a cross, a symbol of her steadfast confession of faith in the one true God.
