Mother of God

Icon made on natural linden wood with water-gilding technique. After the thermal treatment, the wood was gilded with 22K gold leaf, in accordance with traditional Byzantine techniques. The icon has been painted with egg tempera for a higher quality and durability of the colors.

Holy Mount Athos is imbued with a profound sense of Our Lady's presence; the same presence that resonates throughout the lives of those who turn to Her. Her image permeates our existence, inspires, comforts and educates: sometimes directly, and sometimes through Her images, the holy icons. Her names are innumerable, as are Her images. Each icon keeps its own story of the miracles She manifested.
