In the icon of the Palm Sunday and the Entrance of Christ into Jerusalem, Jesus is depicted triumphantly entering the city. He sits upon a small donkey, while a crowd welcomes Him, holding branches of palms and other trees. The Apostles accompany Him, while the rest of the people stand at the gates of Jerusalem. The residents are shown spreading their garments on the road for the Messiah to pass. In the background, children climb trees to catch a glimpse of Him, and women appear at the windows of their homes. The composition is enriched with architectural elements of the city walls and a golden background, symbolizing the Divine glory.
