Virgin of Vladimir

Icon made on natural linden wood with water-gilding technique. After the thermal treatment, the wood was gilded with 22K gold leaf, in accordance with traditional Byzantine techniques. The icon has been painted with egg tempera for a higher quality and durability of the colors.

In the icon of Theotokos of Vladimir, the Virgin Mary is depicted embracing the Divine Infant. She holds Jesus tenderly, while He turns toward her, wrapping His arms around her neck and pressing His cheek against hers. The gentle inclination of their faces expresses maternal love and divine affection. The golden background emphasizes the spiritual radiance and transcendent nature of the figures.
