The Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God is one of the greatest Orthodox holidays. The Mother of God herself urged to consider the Dormition as a joyful event, explaining that, having passed into the other world, to Her Lord, She will not only stay with the humanity, but will protect all people with even greater force, covering them with Her infinite love.

The icon of the Dormition of the Mother of God depicts Our Lady on Her deathbed, surrounded by apostles and other saints. In the center of the icon there's Jesus Christ, Who descended from Heaven to receive the soul of His Mother in the form of a baby wrapped in white swaddling clothes. This is how the birth into eternal life after death is depicted.
