Saint Tatiana of Rome

Icon made on natural linden wood with water-gilding technique. After the thermal treatment, the wood was gilded with 22K gold leaf, in accordance with traditional Byzantine techniques. The icon has been painted with egg tempera for a higher quality and durability of the colors.

Saint Tatiana is depicted frontally, with a strict yet serene expression. The purity of her face and the clarity of her eyes reveal her spiritual wisdom and the depth of her saintly character. She is dressed in a deep red garment and a white maphorion. In her left hand she holds a cross, symbolizing her martyrdom and bearing witness to the steadfastness of her faith. The golden background highlights her sanctity and her participation in the uncreated light of the Divine presence, according to the Orthodox iconographic tradition.
