Saint Nikephoros

Icon made on natural linden wood with water-gilding technique. After the thermal treatment, the wood was gilded with 22K gold leaf, in accordance with traditional Byzantine techniques. The icon has been painted with egg tempera for a higher quality and durability of the colors.

The icon of Saint Nikephoros the Leper is rendered in the orthodox iconography with modesty and profound humility. The saint’s face reflects patience and boundless love. He is depicted frontally. In his right hand he holds a wooden cross, as a confession of faith and a sign of his complete dedication to Christ. He is shown as ascetic, with a calm and radiant face that reveals his inner peace. His body is clothed in monastic garments. The icon calls the believers to place their trust in God and to endure every hardship for His sake.
