Saint Matrona of Moscow

Saint Matrona of Moscow was born in Russia at the beginning of the 20th century. Her family lived in poverty. Her mother intended to leave her in an orphanage, believing that she would not be able to raise her. However, after a vision she had, she felt the divine providence that was guarding the saint and kept the child that was born blind.

Despite her physical disability, saint Matrona gained psychic vision. She was distinguished for her ascetic life and spiritual gifts. From an early age she became known for her insight, support and healing of people coming to her.

Matrona led a humble and pious life. She faced the difficulties of her time, such as the persecution of Christians in Soviet Russia, while remaining faithful to Jesus Christ. She stood by the people who needed her, prayed for them and comforted them. Many visited her to receive her blessing. Her fame spread all throughout Russia. She was considered a living symbol of hope and faith.

Saint Matrona passed away in 1952, leaving the orthodox church with a great spiritual legacy. Her canonization took place in 1999. According to the iconographic type, the saint is depicted with her eyes closed and her hands open to the faithful. Her miracles continue to be performed to this day. Moreover, those who turn to her have her promise:

"…all those who seek help from me will meet me after their death".

Saint Matrona is commemorated on the 2nd of May.
