Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd, is depicted frontally as a loving guide and protector of the believers. His figure conveys paternal tenderness, care, and sacrificial love. Upon His shoulders He carries the lost sheep, while on the upper part of His arms the wounds from the nails of the Crucifixion are visible. His face is serene and radiant, revealing God’s boundless compassion for humanity and His resolve to save the world from corruption. The icon expresses Christ’s personal relationship with each individual person, as well as His voluntary sacrifice. In His halo appears the inscription "ό Ών" (One Who Is), emphasizing the ontological truth of God’s very being.
