Engraved on the buckle, there is an image of the Crucifixion of Our Lord Jesus Christ. The Virgin Mary and Saint John the Evangelist are depicted on either side of the Cross. Above, there are two angels and an inscription "ΙΝΒΙ". Another inscription "ΙΣ ΧΣ ΝΙΚΑ" surrounds the crucified Saviour.
The spear and the sponge on the reed are depicted to the right and left of the Cross. These are the Arma Christi ("weapons of Christ"), or the Instruments of the Passion of the Lord.
