In the representation of Christ as the Bridegroom, Jesus is depicted frontally, in a state of profound humility and silent Passion. He wears a crown of thorns that wounds His forehead and a purple himation. In His right hand He holds the reed given to Him by the Jews in place of a royal scepter, symbolizing the mockery He endured and His voluntary sacrifice. His hands are bound, crossed in front of His body. His face is calm, with a lowered gaze that calls the believers to repentance and spiritual awakening. In His halo appears the inscription "ό Ών" (One Who Is), emphasizing the ontological truth of God’s very being. Christ is shown as the One who truly exists, from whom all reality derives and gets shaped.
