This handmade carved wooden neck cross is crafted by the monks of Mount Athos. It is made from boxwood and mounted on a walnut frame.
The shape of the cross resembles an anchor. The four-pointed form of the anchor was one of the earliest symbolic representations of the cross. As the Apostle Paul said, the Cross of Christ has given humanity the opportunity to "hold to the hope that lies before us. This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls" (Hebrews 6:18–19).
The front side of the cross depicts the Crucifixion of our Lord Jesus Christ, framed with carved ornaments.
Inscriptions at the top of the cross: ΙΣ ΧΣ (Jesus Christ), ΙΝΒΙ ("Ἰησοῦς ὁ Ναζωραῖος ὁ Βασιλεὺς τῶν Ἰουδαίων", translates as "Jesus, King of the Jews")
Inscription on the back of the cross: ΑΓΙΟΝ ΟΡΟΣ
Crafting technique: carving, wood embossing
The cross is available with either a simple cord or a beaded one.
