Aer and Chalice Veil Set "Baptism of Jesus"

The set consists of two veils and an aer embroidered with rich floral ornaments and decorated with gold scalloped edges.

The cross-shaped veils are used to cover the chalice and the diskos during the proskomedia. They symbolize the swaddling clothes of the Divine Infant or the burial cloth of Christ.

The aer has a rectangular shape and symbolizes the boulder that sealed Jesus' tomb. It is wrapped around the censer and then covers the chalice and diskos together. Its name (aer translates as air) comes from the ritual of its lifting and shaking above the Holy Gifts during the recitation of the Symbol of Faith.
